Agencies

San Jose ICO offers wilderness experiences to inner-city youth who might otherwise be unable to get out of the city. ICO volunteers work year-round to develop partnerships with selected agencies that serve youth in the South Bay area, including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as, community centers and various youth programs. The youth range in age from 8 to 21, and come from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Bill Wilson Center - Independent Living Skills Program
The Independent Living Skills Program teaches youth (ages 16 to 21) in foster care the skills they need to become self-sufficient. Youth who are raised in group homes or foster care "age out" of the system at 18 regardless of whether they have a job, money, or the skills needed to be independent. Many end up on the streets and homeless. The ILP program focuses on job skills (resume writing, job searching, interviewing), household management (budgeting, shopping, cleaning), and interpersonal skills.

Seven Trees Elementary
Seven Trees Elementary is located southeast section of  San Jose in the Franklin-McKinley School District. The school serves a suburban area, including a wide socio-economic population. The school population reflects the community, which includes 1.6% African-American, 76% Hispanic, 14% Asian, 3% Filipino, 0.3% Native American, 0.9% Pacific Islander, and 4% Caucasian. Students are selected to participate in the ICO outings based on teacher recommendations and range in ages from 11 to 13 with many former students returning to participate in ICO activities. 

Star House
Star House Group Homes serves teens who are wards of the state. ICO provides the residents of Star House with a variety of wilderness experiences around the Bay Area. Residents range in age from 11 to 18 years old.
